In January 2001 we visited the Institute of Knowledge Management
in Boston, USA. Stemming from this visit we are developing a comprehensive
report on the recent Communities of Practice project we evaluated
for Reframing the
Future. The latter is the national staff development and change
management program that assists in the implementation of a national
training system.
The report will be finalised in February 2002, and will identify
the processes needed to develop Communities of Practice, the critical
success factors in sustaining them and the benefits achievable.
E-learning is the use of a range of technologies, particularly
Internet or Intranet technologies, to deliver education and training.
Following the publication of our report
on the Australian market for e-learning in December 2001, we undertook
comparative research in the UK and USA on trends in e-learning.
Findings from this international and national research will inform
or consulting advice to Australian clients.
As part of a current national research project, we are producing
case studies of organisations blending e-learning and e-education.
We identified overseas case studies during our investigations in
the UK and USA in January 2001. These case studies illustrate the
different ways progressive organisations are using e-business in
conjunction with e-learning to provide enhanced services. The case
studies provide Australian educational organizations with new business
models.
We are currently reviewing organisational models that combine the
use of both strategic management and change management. This review
forms part of our evaluation of a program designed to assist educational
organisations to become high-performing.
