• since 1992 has provided consulting advice to over 20 universities and all TAFE systems, DEEWR and its antecedents (eg DEST, DETYA) and most State governments, numerous colleges, employer bodies and professional associations
• has researched and written extensively in tertiary education on leadership, change management, strategy-making, innovation, entrepreneurship and advanced practice.
• has written a weekly column for Campus Review for the last five years, and five books over that same period, See www.ibsa.org.au/jma
• is arguably one of the most knowledgeable people in tertiary sector about who is at the leading edge in terms of innovative strategy-making and quality in teaching and learning

• possesses high level evaluation and analytical skills, with expertise in applying these skills to the research process. These demonstrated skills include, but are not limited to:

  • mixed methods research employing both qualitative and quantitative techniques including document analysis, literature reviewing, interviewing, surveying, conducting focus groups and on-the-job observations and undertaking the process of convergence and saturation to identify major themes
  • case study research; appreciative inquiry; impact evaluations; efficiency and effectiveness evaluations; program evaluation; policy analysis; return on investment (ROI) studies; cost effectiveness studies; value for money studies; cost benefit analyses.

• BA Hons (Latrobe University 1990), Postgrad Dip. Applied Science (RMIT University 2002), Master Assessment and Evaluation (Melbourne University 2007). Undertaking a graduate diploma in database management at Swinburne University (2010).

• has strong expertise in statistics and is one of the handful of qualified psychometricians in education in Australia 
• was awarded a medal by NCVER in 2008 for his pioneering work on measuring student satisfaction for Chisholm TAFE
• provided consulting advice on survey management systems to William Angliss TAFE, Swinburne TAFE, Mornington Shire Council
• designed a suite of six quantitative measurement tools for Challenger TAFE
• designed the national surveys and developed the structural equation models for the two ACCI studies and the national study of VET assessors for QLD DET
• is acknowledged by the Australian suppliers of the powerful statistics and business analytics program SPSS as one of the leading users of the software nationally
